ART 10 (VAD 10 - #670) Art 10 is a Visual Arts course that explores and develops skills and artistic expression in the areas of: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Textile Arts, Mixed Media and individual areas of study and exploration. Students will be evaluated on technique development, variety of mediums explored, and the development of individual skill levels. A component of Art History is included. Students are required to have sketch book, drawing pencils and art eraser. (Fine Arts) Fee: $15.00
STUDIO ARTS 11 (Formerly Art 11) ( SADP 11 - #574) A Visual Arts course open to all grade 11 & 12 students. This course is targeted toward the intermediate Art student. Areas of the visual arts in Drawing & Painting are covered in depth. A component of Art History included. A small unit on Printmaking, fine Arts and mixed media will also be covered. All assignments are graded according to effort, personal ability and imagination shown. Students are required to have a sketch book, drawing and colored pencils. (Fine Arts) Fee: $15.00
STUDIO ARTS 12 (Formally Art 12) ( SADP 12 - # 474) Drawing and Painting is a Visual Arts course targeted towards the advanced Art Student. (Gr. 11 Visual Arts is a prerequisite) Drawing & Painting are covered in depth as well as Art History, the development of personal style and technique and independent studies. Assignments and graded according to effort and ability. Students are required to have a sketch book and drawing pencils. (Fine Arts) Fee: $15.00
CERAMICS 10 (VAC10 - #673) In Ceramics 10, students will explore in greater depth, ceramics and sculpture as art forms. They will develop skills in hand building techniques that include pinch, coil and slab methods, as well as additive and subtractive techniques. More advanced decorating techniques will be explored. Students will be expected to complete projects in the above areas. Fee: $22.00 Fine Arts
STUDIO ARTS 11 CERAMICS & SCULPTURE (SACS 11 - #573) This course is designed to be a continuation of Ceramics 10. This course content will include more complex hand building and pottery wheel techniques. Decorating technique will be explored in depth. Sculpture, using clay as a medium, will be exposed in greater depth. Students will be expected to complete personal projects in three selected areas. (Fine Arts) Fee: $22.00
STUDIO ARTS 12; CERAMICS & SCULPTURE (SACS 12 - # 473) Arts 12 is a continuation of Studio Arts 11. Course content will include in depth and complex hand building, throwing and firing techniques and skills. Students will be expected to complete personal projects in four selected areas, including Art Histroy, Sculpture , hand building and pottery wheel. (Fine Arts) Fee: $22.00
DRAMA 10 (DRG10 - #671) Drama 10 is an in depth creative drama course. It will develop in depth the student's ability to improvise and role play as well as their skills of co-operation, concentration, sensory memory and body control. Areas of mime, theatre games, script interpretation development and presentation will be explored. (Fine Arts)
ACTING 11 (TPA11 - # 571) ACTING 12 (TPA12 - # 471) This class develops drama skills and adds working on voice and stagecraft. Emphasis is on complex improvisational and role-play techniques. The student will learn formal acting technique and become familiar with portraying scripted scenes. Theatre history will also be explored. (Fine Arts)
ART FOUNDATIONS 11 (Formerly Fine Arts 11) (AF 11 - #570) This course provides a broad range of experience in 2D and 3D visual Arts in the areas of: Drawing , Painting, Printmaking, FinerArts, Electronic Art and Performance Arts. Students will explore image creation and development through a variety of media and create 2D and 3D Artforms that are personally meaningful. This course provides students with a general and wide range experience. Students require a sketch book, drawing pencils and colored pencils. (Fine Arts) Fee: $20.00
ART FOUNDATIONS 12 (AF 12 - #470) Provides a balanced fine Arts program of study in Visual and Performing Arts. These areas include drawing, painting, printmaking, FiberArts, Electronic Art and Performance Arts in depth than Art Foundations 11. Student level of sophistication and complexity in image development is increased. Documentation and evaluation of their creative process and art is integral to this course. Students require a sketchbook, drawing pencils and colored pencils. (Fine Arts) Fee: $20.00
BAND 10 (MCB 10 -#672) BAND 11 (MCB 11 - #572) BAND 12 (MCB 12 - # 472)
Through rehearsal, both in and out of class, students enrolled in the band program will establish and refine musical skills with a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument of their choice. Strong emphasis will be placed on the reading of musical scores and the development of musical skills. Students should be prepared to devote substantial amounts of time to practice and to attend concerts. Students may be required to rent an instrument for the duration of the course.
Jr. Courses
ART 9 (AR 9 - #770) Art 9 is a visual arts course involving several basic and introductory areas of study. These include: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Pottery (Hand building techniques), Print making, Textile Arts (Batik, weaving, quilting) and Mixed Media. This is the first of the in depth studies in these areas where techniques, skills and elements and principles of design are explored and developed. Emphasis is placed on personal skill development. A component of Art History is also included. Students are required to have a sketch book, drawing pencils and art eraser. (Fine Art) Fee: $15.00
CERAMICS 9 (VAC 9 - #773) This is an introductory and exploratory course that will introduce students to the many aspects of ceramics, pottery and sculpture as art forms. Students will learn about the preparation of clay, basic hand building techniques (Pinch, coil, slab), decorating techniques, elements of design, glazes and basic firing skills. A unit on clay sculpture is included. Students will be expected to complete projects in the above areas. (Fine Arts or Applied Skills) Fee: $22.00
DRAMA 9 (DRG9 - #771) Drama 9 is an introductory creative drama course, which includes skill development in the areas of mine, improvisation, theatre games, memory development and basic script interpretation. A variety of strategies will be used to develop the student's artistic and aesthetic senses. (Fine Art)
