ENGLISH 10 (EN10 - #610) This course introduces students to strengthening their analytical skills in language arts. Students will be encouraged to apply their understanding of characters, plots, settings, and themes through written assignments, oral presentations, and tests. A wide variety of different genres will be offered to students. There is a required provincial exam worth 20% of the final grade.
ENGLISH 11 (EN11 - #510) This course promotes stronger uses of grammar and expressions in their writing. Major components such as Shakespeare, novels, and poetry are covered in detail. English 11 prepares students to evaluate both their writing skills and their interests in literature. Recommend: English 10 (60%)
ENGLISH 12 (EN 12 - #410) This course involves the student in a critical study of English in its different forms. Poetry, novels, short stories, comprehensive reading, and plays will be studied. Essays are required which emphasize content, organization, and grammatical/mechanical expression. This course includes a provincial examination that accounts for 40% of the final course grade. Recommend: English 11 (60%)
LITERATURE 12 (LIT 12 - #413) This course covers the literacy history of England from Anglo-Saxon times until the end of the Victorian Age. A specified reading list is included. This course includes a provincial examination that accounts for 40% of the final grade. Recommend: English 11 (70%)
Jr. Courses
ENGLISH 9 (EN 9 - #710) Developing stronger language arts skills is a major focus in this course. Students will have opportunities to read a wide selection of different books and learn to increase their understanding of characters, plots, settings, and themes. The process of writing well-developed assignments will be promoted.
