Sr. Courses


FRENCH 10 (FR. 10 - #611) French 10 covers grammar more extensively than French 9 including a study of verb tenses and subordinate clauses; and place a greater stress on spoken communication. By the end of French 10 students should be able to carry out most classroom communications in the French Language. This task will not be difficult for those who performed well in French 9.


FRENCH 11 (FR.11 - #511) French 11 is a challenging course with a strong emphasis on grammar and includes the study of several verb tenses and related pronouns. Vocabulary is developed further and some French literature is studied. Students entering French 11 are expected to be able to function in the classroom almost entirely in French. Students who did well in French 10 should have little trouble with French 11. Recommended: French 10 (60%)


FRENCH 12 (FR.12 - #411) French 12 introduces some new grammatical concepts such as the subjunctive, and more French literature. It also improves the mastery level of language skills developed in French 11. This course includes an optional provincial examination worth 40% of the final grade for the course. Recommended: French 11 (60%). Offered in alternate years.

 

Jr. Course

 

FRENCH 9 (FR 9 -#711) French 9 expands the basics learned in French 8. There is more spoken French involved as the focus is more on communication than grammar. New concepts include passe compose, and the comparative. Students who did well with the basics in French 8 should have no trouble with French 9.
